EDITORIAL - Achieving high marks

- The Philippine Star

The good news is that Cebu is still a force to reckon with when it comes to producing quality professionals. A testament to this is our local schools’ good showing in various licensure examinations.

Just last week, at least four graduates from two local medical schools landed in the top 10 in the recent licensure examinations for medical technologists. One of them even managed to grab the top spot, trouncing other examinees from more well-known schools across the country.

Such feat duplicated the achievement done by the grandson of Cebu first district Representative Eduardo Gullas, who took the first place in the first med tech licensure exam of the year given last March. The two topnotchers came from the same school which is one of the top local producers of professionals in the medical field.

Prior to the med tech exam, at least 19 nursing graduates from Cebu schools posted high marks as they barged into the top 10 in the licensure examinations given last July. By producing such large number of topnotchers, our local schools were able to show their best performance in recent years.

Now, it cannot be denied that Cebu has seriously turned into a major source of quality graduates. The fact that our local schools have become more consistent in churning out topnotchers in licensure exams can only mean that Cebu is well on its way to become the country’s center of learning.

Well, Cebu is already the center of education in the Visayas and Mindanao, a solid distinction it proudly maintained since Spain first introduced one of Asia’s best educational systems almost 500 years ago. In fact, thousands who graduated from Cebu schools every year came from other provinces, who wanted the best education that only our local schools can offer.

Cebu’s unprecedented progress today can largely be attributed to its sound educational system, which enables our schools to produce some of the country’s best professionals. That is why those multinational companies would have never poured in billions of investments if not for a large pool of local talents.
