HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Philippine Star

I heard someone say on TV: "Being poor is all right if you got a lot of money." Its statements like this that make me feel dizzy.

The world's biggest crocodile, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is Lolong the Filipino croc. Lolong is a croc, not a crook which some people have made him a symbol of.

The PNP will train policemen in combat sports like taekwondo, boxing, karate, arnis, etc. Way back years ago, Cacoy Cañ ete, the arnis-eskrima grandmaster, pushed for such advocacy in the police force.

***

Cacoy, one of the founders of the Doce Pares Eskrima Club, said martial arts could enhance our policemen's anti-crime fighting skills, which is what the present PNP leadership also thinks. Cacoy was offering his arnis expertise for free.

***

Mando Cui-Tinsay,a retired martial arts instructor at the Korean School of Hand Combat (I forgot the exact name of the school) said on TV that martial arts has been part of the Korean police's anti-crime fighting training for many years. "A Korean policeman can kill a gun-wielder with his bare hands," Cui-Tinsay said.

The DOH is reminding us of the need to eat vegetables for good health. Families could have vegetable on the table daily if they would spend some leisure moments planting veggies in their backyards. This according to Ms. Donna Grecia, a nutritionist and advocate of vegetable nutrition.

***

"Even if you live in the city," says Ms. Grecia, "you can be a vegetable farmer." According to her, lack of space for vegetable farming or gardening is not a problem for any family who wishes to plant vegetable for family consumption.

***

"I live in a crowded neighborhood in Metro Manila," says Ms. Grecia, "but I plant four different native vegetables and harvest enough leafy greens for family requirement." Her veggies garden is only 6 feet by 20 feet. Some of the vegetables are planted in flower pots. Her sister, who lives in a condominium in Quezon City, also does veggie gardening using pots.
