English as the language in the impeachment trial

ENGLISH LANGUAGE. An Indonesian who watched on TV the Chief Justice’s impeachment trial was heard (by a Filipino friend) telling friends at home about the trial. Among other things he said: “Everyone spoke in English during the court proceedings.” He said in other Asian countries, the native language is spoken in important legal or governmental proceedings like a trial of a key government official.

LOCAL TONGUE. This Indonesian spoke about his observation in the local tongue (Bahasa Indonesia), which The Ear informer could understand very well being married to a native of Jakarta.
