Halad Museum joins "Gabii sa kabilin"

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Pnoy has not yet nominated an ambassador to China. But not to worry. No need to do it now. The Philippines now belongs to China. Or so a Chinese TV. Host has said.

Can you imagine – just imagine—the smallness of the Philippines compared to China? Someone said: “If every Chinese would spit the Philippines would drown.”

***

Chinese demonstrators in Hong Kong burned the Philippine flag in protest against our stand in the Panatag shoal issue. Our militant activists at home must be burning mad—or are they?

The obesity problem in America has now reached epidemic proportions. It says here that fat Americans continue to grow. I mean their number.

In his article on Lapulapu in this paper’s Reader’s Views section last May 9, Glenn F. Baricuatro of Pinamungajan, Cebu, said: “Lapulapu was the first champion of freedom and liberty in this part of the world. If we can set aside holidays for other heroes, why can’t we do the same for him?”

***

I agree hundred percent with Mr. Baricuatro. In fact, I had said the same thing about Lapulapu years back when Boy Odilao first launched Bahug-Bahug sa Mactan now known as Kadaugan sa Mactan.

***

I asked then: “Why is Lapulapu not honored with a national holiday?” No one has, until now, given me the answer.

I’m happy to note that the Jose R. Gullas Halad Museum has joined the sixth run of the “Gabii sa Kabilin 2012” of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and partners. This heritage event is set on May 25, 2012, from 6 pm to midnight.

The Halad Museum is the repository of musical mementoes left by some of the greatest Cebuano musicians and composers. It’s the only museum of its kind in Cebu.

***

The visiting timeslots for the Jose R. Gullas Halad Museum during the “Gabii sa Kabilin” are 7 pm, 8:30 pm and 10pm. The world famous UV Chorale will hold free mini concerts on these timeslots.
