The US Secret Service scandal shows how even the most respected agency tasked to guard the most powerful man in the world is not immune to the traps and follies that men normally fall into. It has been revealed that several US Secret Service agents sent as an advance party to Colombia where President Barack Obama was headed were involved in “inappropriate behavior and unfortunate acts,” most probably involving prostitutes. Gives a new meaning to the term “secret service.” My goodness! Needless to say this has been an embarrassing incident for President Obama, who is currently on a campaign trail to secure his second term as President of the United States.
As the investigation deepens, it is becoming evident that this may not have been the first time that this has happened, and that more agents may even be involved. Nine agents have already resigned or are being asked to leave the Service, but the investigation should follow through. So much for all the high level security these agents always adhere to in the course of their job. It is apparent that when the boss isn’t around, they are just like any other man who can’t control his hormones in an appropriate manner!
I really wonder, as I’m sure everyone else is, what other improprieties have these agents been involved in while their principal isn’t around? Not to mention during the past administrations! What makes this story even more amazing is how it all began – a dispute as to the escort’s fee, which the agent agreed but refused to pay after whatever it is she escorted him to! I heard it was $800, or roughly P33,000! Whoa! I’m assuming that the money for these “escorts” do not come from the government! Well, they did pay for the hotel, which is not cheap from what I’ve heard! An idiot, if you ask me. President Obama calls him a knucklehead. Idiot sounds better.
The agent at the center of the controversy has been identified. Attempts by American cable news network CNN to interview the said agent have been unfruitful. And now, the house where the agent is supposed to be living is up for sale. A life turned upside down. All because of a night of poor judgment, gross misconduct and pure adolescent behavior. The American people will never look at the Secret Service the same way again. Ever.
This incident should as well bring to light any improprieties that may have been committed by our own unit tasked to guard the President. The Presidential Security Guard is the unit tasked for that. I wonder if there are any similar acts of misconduct that have been committed by them, in this or any other past administration? If an investigation is launched, will it bear any rotten fruit? Will they even allow us to ask questions? Are there horror stories from the ranks of the PSG?
Just asking.
