Bomb-proof vehicle: A reward for PNoy?

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila -

Have you ever asked yourself why Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III all of a sudden needs a brand new bullet or bomb-proof vehicle? First of all, let me say it here that I agree that the President of this country or any country for that matter should be allowed the use of a bullet-proof vehicle. However, in the case of this country, the usual talks start with certain realities, like the one that the previous President used was already old or broken. That is enough justification for Congress to get the President a new one.

However the report we are getting is that, PNoy wants a new bullet-proof vehicle because of alleged death threats against him. Come now, aren’t death threats against our President part of the territory? Yup, it is! So stories like this should not even make the front-page news. So why is this story in the main pages of our newspapers?

I reckon that since the Aquino Regime has used propagandists to destroy people’s character, like the way they destroyed the image of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez or the flavor of the year, CJ Corona, people no longer take their word lock, stock and barrel. Rather, many pundits have to look between the lines when PNoy issues a statement.

If you ask me, the Filipino people are being “primed” for some kind of coup against the President, so asking for a bullet-proof or even a bomb-proof vehicle is just the beginning of what I believe to be an unfolding scenario. Remember the fake assassination attempt against then Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE), which then Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos used to declare Martial Law all over the country back in 1972? This was publicly admitted by JPE himself during the EDSA Revolt.

From the way things are going, we just might be following a similar pattern. PNoy already pointed out that corrupt people are behind these alleged plots. If he has knowledge about this plot, why can’t he name names? PNoy’s “simpleton” mind says that all of those who are against him are corrupt, while he and only his Kabarilan, Kaklase, Kaibigan are the ones who are honest. Come now, we heard that yarn before!

This report brought a sharp rebuke from no less than Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz who laughed off this alleged death threat saying, “If there’s someone angry with him, I don’t think it will come to a point that that person would want to kill him. I think that is too much to ask. Why would anyone want to kill him, he is incompetent.” Ouch!

If at all I’m against the purchase of a new bullet or bomb-proof vehicle that PNoy’s robots in Congress are pushing through Resolution No.2191, it is that it is not the proper time to change his 5-year old presidential vehicle. Come now, what is the mileage of that current presidential car? I don’t think that this vehicle has a high mileage, after all, it is not being used everyday and I’m sure that there are many other bullet-proof presidential vehicles in the Malacañang stable.

I drive a 2006 Honda Civic and it has run so well (there was only one thing that broke, which Honda Cars fixed under its warranty) and I use this car everyday in the bad roads of Cebu and I tell you, I don’t have any urge or need to replace my car, although the new car models that have arrived are really worth looking into, so now why should PNoy get a new one? Should we reward him for his incompetence?

At this time when the prices of basic commodities have risen sharply, gasoline prices are at an all time high, cooking gas has hit a thousand bucks per tank and almost everything else have skyrocketed, I’ll say it again, it is the wrong time to buy a new presidential vehicle. But then PNoy doesn’t have any social graces and couldn’t care any less if Filipinos go hungry for as long as he gets what he wants.

Meanwhile, the coup rumors have already become viral. What else can we expect from a President whose political advisers are allies of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)? Could this death threat really come from his political enemies or could it come from within? We know too well from the history of Communist regimes that the victims of their own pogroms kill their own leaders or supporters.

But what do we hear from the coffee houses about this death threat against PNoy? Many friends are saying, “God forbid that someone would kill Pres. PNoy… because everytime an Aquino dies, another Aquino wins the Presidency.” Indeed this is true. When Sen. Ninoy Aquino was assassinated, his wife, Tita Cory Aquino, became President. When Tita Cory died in 2010, her son, Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III became President. Just think… if PNoy would be assassinated… will we have Kris Aquino as the next President? God forbid that someone would kill PNoy. So PNoy should have nothing to be scared of!
