Raped by their textmates

Did you know that a large number of rape victims are textmates of their rapists? This was learned from the letters sent to a newspaper columnist by the victims seeking help. And many of these victims are minors — easily swayed and fooled by their older textmates.

Here we go again! The lamppost controversy is back in the headlines. “This P365 million scam,” says a reader, “keeps ‘scamming back’, never ‘scramming out’.”

An American journalist asked: “Why is it that in the Philippines, naturalized foreigners who are now Filipinos are still referred to as (for example) Fil-Chinese or Fil-Am or Fil-foreigner? They are already Filipinos, period. No more need for hyphens.”

He said in the United States, once a foreigner like a Pinoy has already become an American citizen he is already an American. Not Fil-American. “That’s why you see Americans who look like Pinoys or Chinese or Vietnamese,” he said. “Their origins are of no moment anymore.”

Reader Dona Dizon called up to say something about the “Mixed Martial Arts” and the “UFC” (Ultimate Fighting Championship) that have slowly but steadily been gaining ground in Phl. She called these “cruel sports.”

Ms. Dizon said “the ultimate aim of these sports is for the combatants to hurt and maim their opponents. She said that, “It is the rule in sports not to hit your opponent when he’s down ... but in the UFC, the combatant who is down can get killed by his opponent unless he’s saved by the referee.” Apparently, Ms. Dizon has seen many UFC bouts on TV.

OVERHEARD. A middle aged woman was heard asking his kumadre: “Kusgan pa si pare? Ayaw gyud pakan-ag kapayas kay makapalumoy ... Hahaha!”
