When the 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Cebu last Monday, Cebuanos abroad got the news quick and fast. Relatives at home had their hands - and ears - full handling calls from worried “parientes” all over the world, mostly in the USA and UK.

The most common questions received by relatives at home from relatives abroad were: “OK ra mo diha, Day?”, “Way nangadaut sa inyong bay?”, “Si Papa ug si Mama wa atakiha sa kahadlok?” And these questions were followed with “sermons” like: “Pag-ampo gyud ni Sr. Sto. Niño ha. Pag amping kanunay.”
