Cebuana teacher launches "Operation: Pencils"

- The Ear -

FEATURED IN US. A Pinay school-teacher who launched a one-woman project for indigent school-children was featured in a magazine in the US. The project was “Operation: Pencils” which gave away hundreds of pencils to poor pupils in Metro Manila. The teacher who dabbled in media work is a native of Cebu City.

“BROKEN PENCILS.” The teacher thought of launching “Operation: Pencils” when she learned that pupils in some public schools would break a pencil into two so that one pencil could be used by two pupils. “I was touched by this and I thought it would be a patriotic act to help in the children’s education by providing them ‘unbroken pencils’,” the teacher was quoted in a US magazine. Thousands of poor schoolkids have benefited from the teacher’s project whose funding comes from her own pocket.
