Firecrackers scare balikbayan kids from US

BALIKBAYAN KIDS. A Cebuano balikbayan brought to Cebu last December his two daughters, aged 11 and 13, for the first time to let them experience how Christmas and New Year are celebrated in the Philippines, especially Cebu. Both girls were born in America (New York). They enjoyed making the rounds of the city, dining and shopping. Until the New Year’s Eve celebration came.

FIRECRACKERS. The terrific blastings of firecrackers, some of them sounding like bombs, scared the girls. “Sayop ko kay wa sila nako briefing-ngi bahin sa grabeng buto-buto dinhi,” the father told an Ear informer. “Nanago tawon sa kasilyas.” The morning after, the girls wanted to go home. Father and daughters cut their vacation short. “Maynalang,” he told the Ear Informer, “kay miaksyon na’g andar ang asthma sa usa tungod sa aso sa pulbora gikan sa pabuto.”
