Every end of the year I check my phonebook for updating. I cross out names of friends who’ve already departed. This yearend guess who’re left? Mostly names of doctors and hospitals. Tsk-tsk.

I always watch the PBA games on TV, or most of them anyway. And I always catch sight of the popular M.V. Pangilinan in the crowd cheering for his corporate team. Yes, despite the many businesses he has to attend to.

When I say cheering, I mean cheering. MVP claps everytime his player scores. He even claps when his player does something remarkable on the hardcourt. That’s the spirit every ballclub owner should have. It fires the team to victory or, in case of a loss, it gives the players the good feeling that the boss was there to see them do their best.

I recall a story about a lamenting employee. He says when he comes to the office early, the boss is absent. When he reports late, the boss is present. “Pagkademalas nako,” he laments.
