Compassion, yes; arrogance, no!

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Former President and now Congresswoman Gloria Arroyo’s medical treatment abroad is being contested by the DOJ and DOH. Her bone is the contention.

Nine PNP officials got 10 years each for the so-called ghost purchases of police uniforms in 1992. Four have already died before their conviction. They couldn’t wait.

Wasn’t this a case of justice delayed? It was. But no one was denied. Each got it in the neck. Delayed, yes. But justice still.

“This peace process between the government and the MILF is all talk,” says a mediaman on radio. Right. But that’s why, Brod, it’s also called peace talk.

* * *

“MILF Vows to Get Rid of Bandits” — Headline. Isn’t this kind of self-incriminating? What will be left of the MILF?

The World Health Organization wants a tax on text messages to boost the government’s health funds. When the cellular phone was invented, the inventor never thought of helping keep this world healthy through his invention.

Text message from a reader who requested anonymity: “Sir Jabat, I would like to know where I could apply for membership in the Ladlad partylist. I also want to know if one has to be gay or bakla to quality for membership.”

* * *

Right now I do not know where to reach the local Ladlad office. I hope someone who knows will let me know and then I’ll pass the info on to you. OK?

The spokesperson of former President Arroyo and the spokesperson of President Aquino are trading barbs over GMA’s illness. My friend Noy Temyong said to me: “Leave them alone. They’re just doing their jobs. We all have to eat, see?”

I haven’t yet been to Lapu-Lapu City’s Hoops Dome but I was impressed by its looks (inside) when I saw it last Saturday on TV during the Alaska-Petron game. To quote a Cebuano friend in Manila who saw it also on TV: “Photogenic ang venue...Lupig ang Cebu City, dunay SRP pero wa’y kaugalingong coliseum.”

E-mail from Mrs. Leoning Olbes of V. Gullas St., this city: “What is your stand on the Aquino administration’s refusal to allow former President Arroyo to go to the US for treatment of her life-threatening ailment? Me, I strongly disapprove of the DOJ’s lack of compassion for the seriously ailing GMA. I also disapprove of the DOJ secretary’s arrogance...If GMA dies without seeing a competent doctor in America, maayong multohan or multohon si Secretary de Lima. What’s your take?”

* * *

My take on the issue? Politics and vengeance should not come into play in this life and death controversy.

I like this inspirational reminder from Bobit Avila, your friend and mine: “If you’re humble, nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace for you know what and who you are. Humility is the only virtue the devil cannot imitate. God bless. Mama Mary loves you.”
