Contract killing: An emerging industry
From the looks of it, we now have an “Emerging Industry” that is keeping approximately a few hundred Filipinos from being an unemployment statistic. Unlike other jobs, this emerging industry pays between 15 thousand to several hundred thousand pesos for only a few weeks work and is purely contractual in nature.
In order to qualify, you must be a spawn of Satan and have no soul. Your personal motto must be: “ Isang bala ka lang”. Unlike other jobs, you are not required to be presentable, sociable, or psychologically stable. In fact, “employers” in this emerging industry prefer if you are “faceless”, “nameless” and are a confirmed Psychopath.
Unfortunately, this emerging industry does us no good unless we can export our homegrown talent to Afghanistan, Mexico or Iraq where they can earn dollars as “security consultants” or “Pest control experts”.
When the Secretary of Health once said that more Filipinos die from NON-Communicable diseases, it never occurred to me that more Pinoys probably die as a result of “contract killing” annually than contracting AIDS.
It pains me to paint our country in a bad light but current circumstance demand that we confront the Aquino administration with the fact that as far as contract killings are concerned, they have no control of the situation.
In fact things are so bad that several media practitioners have even “named” the suspects of contract killings as “Mr. Riding in tandem”.
Practically everyday of the week, for the past month there has been an incident of contract killing done by an individual, a team riding in tandem or as in the case of the Practical shooter named Lontoc, a whole team of spotters, tipsters and shooters with machine pistols.
A Korean was recently killed, an “Indian” lender was recently killed, several employees of local governments were killed, a husband and wife were shot in front of their children. People are being murdered in cold blood from Ilocos to Zamboanga, and all the government can do is write down another statistic.
Don’t try to pin this on the Philippine National Police because our “Honorable men and women in the Senate and Congress have long known that we have a critical situation in terms of manpower and weaponry. However, Congress has prioritized their pork barrel and their political tenure over and above public safety.
The glaring fact of the matter is we have an epidemic shortage or lack of police officers, we have an excessive amount of firearms with very little or no control and we now have a culture of impunity and loss of faith in the justice system.
When people are murdered daily because of money and business disputes, we either have absolutely no faith in the Justice system or we are now living in a world of syndicates, gangsters just like the Mexicans are.
We have compromised public safety and control by playing along with local politicians and public administrators by letting them establish their “Force multipliers” called barangay tanods and traffic personnel. They are nothing more than “Pulis Patolas” wearing uniforms to look like cops and totally misrepresent and distort the public image of a true Police Officer.
It is an insult and a disgrace to see Legislators salivating at a chance to grill the US Ambassador for an off the cuff remark, but be totally indifferent to the daily executions all over the Philippines. How can senators and Congressmen be so concerned about water being released from Dams but not take a stand about several women being shot in broad daylight in front of their homes?
How can we expect to control criminality when the government cannot even control the available weaponry in society? Imagine finding or seeing AK-47 Assault rifles in the streets? Some three weeks ago, Cebu newspapers reported how a relative of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia brandished an AK-47 at a foreigner because of street signs intended to slow down speeding vehicles.
Last week, the Mitsubishi Montero of Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Ronald Llamas figured in an accident reportedly because of a drunk driver. Inside the SUV was an AK-47 assault rifle!
Where do you think you are Secretary Llamas, Mexico? If you have that level of threat and enemies, you’re the last person I want with a # 6 plate and an AK-47driving around Metro Manila.
The office of the Secretary Llamas assured the public that the gun was licensed. Excuse me Mr. Secretary but from what I know, the PNP is not suppose to give out “PTCs or Permit To Carry” for assault rifles.
The incident involving Llamas and his AK-47 is one of so many incidents where people carry guns outside their official duty and without authority.
This is a rampant violation committed by Police Officers and members of the AFP and close in security of high-ranking officials and businessmen. It is a deadly sense of entitlement that has led to defenseless people being shot in traffic.
In the end, everyone assumes a criminal with a gun in his hip is a “cop” or a “soldier”.
A US Ambassador may be politically restrained or censured for saying that 40% of male tourists come to the Philippines for sex because being the hypocrites that we are we don’t want foreigners telling the world about our dirt.
Well, I’m a Filipino telling our political leaders that we now have several industries. We have drugs, prostitution that even features “Brazilian” and “Russian” talents, carnapping, smuggling and now we have contract killings and business is BOOMING!
