From roadside singer to Manila entertainer

- The Ear -

A BEGGAR NO MORE. About five years ago, The Ear carried a story about a seven-year-old boy who sang beautiful love songs at the corner of Colon St. and Juan Luna St. (now Osmeña Blvd.). He was called an artist by a nun who taught music in a Manila university. Actually, in the strictest sense, he was a beggar.

ORPHAN. The boy is an orphan and could not point to The Ear any place in the city where he lived. One day, an entertainment producer found and heard the boy singing. He got to thinking about helping the boy find a place in Manila’s entertainment world. He made arrangement with his guardians to give the boy a shot in the Big City.
