Lawyer says the world won't end
The “End of the World” predicted by an American preacher to happen last May 21 has been postponed. It was reset in October.

That puts the “Big Event” on the level of a raffle draw sponsored by a charitable organization who was forced to reschedule the draw because there are still many tickets left unsold.

The “End of the World” really scheduled to end? Atty. Chito Germino, who writes regularly for Banat News, TF’s sister publication under the Philippine Star Group of Publications, says the world will not end.

God never said He’s gonna put an end to the world, according to Attorney Germino. Sir Chito wrote about his argument to this effect in Banat News, May 27, 2011 (which can be accessed on BN’s website www.philstar.com).

Last May 21 was supposed to be the time the world was to end. Prior to that there had been other similar predictions that never came true. Commenting on this, a neighbor of mine who sells candies and cigarettes on a Colon sidewalk said: “Hesusmaria! Nganong gusto man ninyo mahuman ang kalibutan?”

A balut vendor, reading aloud Philstar’s story headlined “DENR Eyes Arms for Forest Guards,” said: “Unsang klasiha sa guards nga wa’y armas ... Duna man gani ko!” He laughed.

The balut vendor, called by neighbors “Tisoy,” is a high school graduate. “Proud ko sa akong trabaho,” he said. “Next year, mo-enrol na ko sa college. Akong kinitaan sa balut maoy akong ipa-enrol sa Criminology diha sa UV.”

He said his classmates and co-graduates frowned on selling balut to earn a living. “Gimenosan kay mauwaw mosuroy og balut ... Mauwaw gyud kay yabag man ang tingog nigsinggit ... Baluuutt. Hehehe,” he said.

This balut vendor is 17 and calls himself “street smart.” He became “ilong tuwapos” (orphaned of both parents) at age 10. And survived the tough life on the streets by standing on his feet and holding his own against hardship of any kind.

Two questions texted by a “wondering” sports fan: (1) “Who is spending for the training of the Azkals which brings them to many parts of the world?” and, (2) “Why is the word ‘Pilipinas’ on the uniform of the PHL basketball team very tiny compared to the word ‘SMART’? Unta the name of our country mas daku kay sa sponsor.”
