Teban's sense of humor unstolen

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

PB Member and Banat News columnist Teban Daan has been robbed of jewelry. Thanks, Goliat, our friend wasn’t robbed of his sense of humor.

You can rob anyone of expensive jewelry, which can be replaced. One’s sense of humor you cannot rob, let alone replace.

A safety-minded bus driver has caused the printing of several bumper stickers that says: “Haste makes waste.” He passed these around the fellow bus drivers, one of whom laughed at him saying: “Mag-drive nalang tag porlon.”

Barely a week after this driver made fun of his safety-minded colleague, he was passenger of a porlon, after figuring in a road mishap.

They’re calling the five-kilometer Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City a “Killer Highway” because many fatal accidents have happened there. The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now at a loss as to what to do, to make this highway safe.

A Cebuano resident of Quezon City has come up with a kind of humorous but sensible suggestion. “Practical suggestion ra ni, Bai, pero basig motalab (whatever that means),” he said to friends.

***

He wrote the MMDA to give some thought to his idea which he called practical: “Invite some funeral parlors to put up branches along the Killer Highway and let them erect big signs that say: In case of accident call our morgue.”

***

The intention here is psychological, explained our paisano. “The idea might scare the wits out of the abusive bus drivers and drivers of other vehicles who forget they are not airplane pilots,” he said.

E-mail from Nanding Lerio: “Naunsa man si boxer-kongresista Manny Pacquiao nga nagkigsangka man ni Kongresista Lagman usa sa labing tang-an nga kongresista nato nga autor sa RH Bill. Hinoon believe ko sa kaisug ni Manny.”

***

Another e-mail from Ms. Lanie Atayde: “Can’t Manny Pacquiao advise his mother to act properly when in front of the TV camera? Just asking.”
