The Pacman vs. the rich and the powerful!

Now the worms are coming out of the woodwork. I have never heard any comment coming from Sen. Edgardo Angara on his stand on the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) Bill issue whether he is for or against it. But in an ambush interview last Tuesday, Sen. Angara apparently revealed himself as supporting the RH bill when he warned the Catholic Church against using the World’s Greatest Boxer, Rep. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, for using the Pacman in the fight against the RH Bill.

Sen. Angara apparently believes that boxers like Pacman only went into boxing because they have no brains. Well, if he doesn’t know, months ago, Pacman already spoke openly against the RH Bill when he became a Congressman and revealed this publicly at a party on the first day of his being in Congress. In my book, the Pacman has more character and faith and yes, brains than most of his peers in Congress.

On the contrary, the Pacman has shown to the world that he is a true Catholic who openly declares his faith even in the boxing ring, where before and after every boxing match he kneels on the canvas and prays. He makes the sign of the cross every time the referee separates him. I have more respect for Pacman than those so-called Catholics like Sen. Angara or Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago who insist on taking Holy Communion even if their desire is to promote laws that kill the innocent and the unborn by legislating laws allowing contraceptives to be given by the government.

Sen. Angara said, “Our people are for it whatever measure you take. They live with poverty and misery everyday so they want some help from government. Let’s not divide and fragment just because of this issue.” If there is anyone who knows what poverty is all about, it is the Pacman, not you Sen. Angara. But it is his faith in God that Pacman made it to the top… through the blessing that our Lord Jesus Christ bestowed upon him. This is why the Pacman doesn’t want to disappoint God and has openly declared to fight any measure that would offend God. Sen. Angara should look at this from Manny’s faith, because that’s the only thing he has in common with Pacman.

Sen. Angara and Sen. Santiago and the pro-RH are berating the Pacman for his open declaration against the RH Bill. Pacman is a Catholic and this is what we expect good Catholics to do. If Sen. Angara and Sen. Santiago want to continue being Catholics, then they too must do what the Pacman just did! Or are they just too high, proud and mighty and have forgotten what humility is all about?

My good friend, Task Force for Life Pres. Douglas Gacasan sent me this scriptural passage to characterize what Pacman is doing, ‘Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, so that no human being might boast before God…1 Cor. 1:27”

Sen. Ed Angara and Sen. Miriam Santiago were already famous and powerful figures in Philippine society long before we knew that a poor man named Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao existed at all. Because he is a powerful politician, Sen. Angara can go to the Vatican and have an audience with the Pope. But I doubt if Emmanuel Pacquiao could even see St. Peter’s Square let alone see the Pope. But God who sees all knew that the RH Bill would be brought into Philippine shores and indeed since 1999, they have been trying to have this bill passed with great difficulty.

Just when it seems that the RH bill is gaining ground thanks to the unequivocal support of Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III, suddenly the appearance of the more famous Pacman is a threat to their evil desires. Indeed, God uses the lowly to send his message of love to his people. So please Mr. Angara, do not blame the Pacman for his popularity. He earned every dollar of it, accepting blows on his body in all the boxing matches he had.

By the way, Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III too used the popularity of his mother to launch his Presidential bid, even if as a Senator and Congressman, he was a non-performer. Now that God has granted PNoy that ultimate blessing to be the leader of the Filipino people, he turns around against God’s will and his people, even declaring that he would pass the RH bill regardless of what the Catholic Church says. In my book, that speaks volumes in the President’s arrogance, spoken like a true haciendero!

But then, Pres. PNoy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He just doesn’t acknowledge the reality that everything that was given to him was a blessing by God. But the lowly, weak and the poor Manny Pacquiao only had his faith that even in their poverty, God will bless their family. So God made Pacman the world’s greatest boxer and now he engages himself in this spiritual battle called the RH bill and the evil one trembles!
