Poor country with money to burn

HERO’S BURIAL. Retired Gen. Angelo Reyes was given a hero’s burial. Some people have made a joke on this. “Nganong si kanhi kuan wa man nila hatagi’g hero’s burial nga mas dako pa gani ang nasakiyo atol sa iyang rehimen?” Someone said. Another someone joined in: “Padak-anay diay sa nasakiyo ang basihan sa hero’s burial? Hehe!”

MONEY TO BURN. A Pinoy journalist working for religious weekly in Canada said in a phone conversation with The Ear: “I steer clear of fellow journalist when the AFP corruption is discussed.” Why? “Because,” he said, “some colleagues (Canadians) would tease me as being someone from a poor country with money to burn.”
