A layman conducting a Sunday school in Manila told the children: “Learn how to pray. Always pray. Satan trembles when he sees you praying.”

Yes, indeed. Because Satan doesn’t pray. He doesn’t know how. But he can prey — and how! He ends his exhortation to anyone with “Let us prey.”

Speaking of prayer, I have several prayer books given to me by my sisters who want me to communicate with God using these prayer books. I always try to use the books but the prayers are mostly too kilometric. I often fall asleep before I could complete a prayer.

So I’ve decided to compose my own prayer, a healing prayer, which is brief and direct to the point. Not that I don’t want to tire the good Lord listening to a long prayer. It’s just that I want my message to reach him quick, believing as I do that the fewer words in a prayer the better.

More on prayer ... An e-mail from Mrs. Elnora Tiansay of Ormoc City says: “I’m glad that your Good News column is now based on Didache. The prayers are easy to understand as they were written very simply by Filipinos. The prayers in the Daily Bread are in poetry form done by Americans. Let it be Didache from now on. Thanks.”

The Philippine Azkals will see action again on Feb. 9 when the AFC Challenge Cup unfolds in Bacolod City’s Panaad Football Stadium. The Azkals will play against the Mongolians. The second game will be in Mongolia.

Some 15,000 football fans, including President Aquino and some high government officials, are going to Bacolod for this football match. Former Rep. Monico Puentevella is the main man in this sports event.

For me — I don’t know for you — this forthcoming international football match needs more Pinoy support than a Pacquiao world title fight. Why? Because the Azkals represent the Philippines and will play for the PHL flag. They are the country’s best bet.

“Manny Pacquiao, whenever he fights, fights for personal glory not for the country,” said a texter who gave his name as Edward Pla. “Of course, if he wins the nation shares his personal glory by virtue of the fact that he is a Filipino.”
