A Pinoy journalist in Australia got in touch with me recently. He wanted to apply for a job. The specific job he wanted was “Obituary Writer.”

He said he has read the obits in this paper and found them “stereotype.” He said “an obit should have life...” He said in the newspaper he worked for, there are eight obituary writers, all of them university graduates.

Reminds me of what I read is an English newspaper about “Food Namers” hired by some classy restos to create classy names for their foods to make them attractive to diners.

Reminds me ... I once had lunch — with Jerry Tundag, I recall — in an uptown restaurant here. One food served was named “Farmer’s Daughter’s Secret.” The journalist in him made Jerry “investigate” what the secret was, and it turned out to be a piece of sausage hidden under a slice of meat.

 “Rotational Brownouts Back” — Headline. Again? I thought this kind of brownout has never left us. It’s back with a vengeance. Now it’s a two-hour brownout, twice a day.

November 14, 2010 has been declared World Diabetes Day to remind everyone of the need to keep off this disease which is now the No. 3 killer of Filipinos, according to the Philippine Star.

I just learned that Goldilocks has come up with a sugar-free mamon. “This is a blessing to us diabetics,” said Mrs. Carmen Ollada of Lahug who said she has not eaten mamon for a long time because most of them are sweet.
