One "women's column" I read
The world has just celebrated International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. "Apparently it did not succeed," said Noy Temyong, my favorite sidewalk philosopher. "Me and my family still wallow in poverty."

Talisay lechoneros paraded their best lechon recently. As usual the cheer of the lechon fans was "Unbelievaboy".

I just got my 2010 copy of the CJJ annual where photos of local journalists are printed. I cheered. Guess why I cheered? No, not because I love to see my wrinkled face in print. But because I am not yet on page 71 where some colleagues rule.

Last Press Freedom Week, someone asked me what column I've been reading for many years. No, no, not my column. Although, yes, I've been reading me first hour in the morning to find out how many typo errors there are.
* * *
I've been reading for years "In My Basket" in Starweek by Lydia D. Castillo, a sister to our Mila C. Espina and my collegemate in UST. Never mind in what year.
* * *
Lydia's column keeps me abreast of what's what in the vegetable and fruits stalls as well as where to go for fresh fish and seafoods. And the prices as well.
* * *
Noy Temyong wonders why I read a column intended for women. Oh, well, because I eat and food is my concern. And yes, I also love to cook as long as there is something to be cooked.
* * *
I agree with this reader, Rufino Pla, who e-mailed me thus: "I am tired of reading opinion columns by writers who think they can change the world with saliva."

Presidential appointees always say they serve at the pleasure of the President. Actually, in many cases, they serve at the pressure of the President. This, according to Nestor Garrido of Tagbilaran City, in his e-mail.
* * *
Mr. Garrido also said: "The suggestion of some congressmen to reduce to only P1 the budget for the office of a Cabinet secretary because of the secretary's act of arrogance is childish, very childish."
* * *
Oh, yeah? That must be in keeping with our celebration this month of National Children's Day.
