MISSION and "Cebu Futures Forum"
MISSION stands for Movement of Imaginals for a Sustainable Society through Implementation, Organization, and Networking.
MISSION explains that the word “imaginal” comes from the science of biology and its study of “imaginal cells”. The almost miraculous transformation of a worm to a butterfly begins with imaginal cells. These imaginal cells are different from the ordinary cells of the worm or larva. The imaginal cells begin to develop after the worm builds a womb (cocoon), dissolves itself into liquid form, and undergoes a process of profound transformation inside this womb.
Similarly the transformation of any struggling society (the “worm”) begins with “imaginal individuals”. These individuals already embody the future in their present deeds and initiatives. The future form of a sustainable society starts becoming a reality in the present when these “imaginals” act on and implement an image of the future and then organize and form networks with other imaginal individuals to turn this positive image of the future into reality and transform the ecological, cultural, economic, and political life of the country.
The movement has incorporated “Imaginal” in its name to emphasize a central point: There can be no authentic sustainable society if individuals in that society do not undergo a path of inner change and self-transformation.
This movement has its origins in the association of volunteers and supporters for a new politics embodied in the presidential campaign of Nicanor Perlas. After this presidential initiative, there was a very strong desire and intention among these volunteers and supporters to continue with the task of transforming the country, albeit, now through a different path and approach. From being a mostly political initiative, the new movement is now societal in nature and predominantly cultural. Also, individuals not groups constitute the movement.
MISSION wants to emphasize that although the movement has its beginnings in a presidential campaign, the movement ultimately wants to include all those who truly want to create a better country and sustainable planet. It is a movement of individuals who are determined to create a better world on the basis of spiritual renewal and inner change.
If you want to know more about MISSION and the imaginals, do find time today, September 18 and September 19, at the Family Park in Talamban where the committed imaginals are eagerly waiting to share with you their time and attention to dialogue with you about your own calling and mission and about their movement as well..
The MISSION is also there to join EARTHDANCE, a 2-day celebration of life, a celebration of Nature, and a celebration of Mother Earth to repeat, at the Family Park in Talamban today, September 18 and 19.
Prof. Glen Green is also inviting you all, to the “Cebu Futures Forum” from 2-4 p.m on Sunday at the Earth Dance Eco-Fair at Family Park, Prof. Green enjoins you all to bring your great ideas and help make Cebu a global eco-leader.
Prof. Glen wants to share with you his ideas about “ Cebu-World Ideas for Survivability Exposition 2021.” He is proposing that Cebu will host a “World’s Fair” in 2021 which would demonstrate how humans can survive on Earth without destroying it.
Some ideas of potential projects that he wants to share and dialogue with you all this Sunday are as follows: for successful living, immediately switch from Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ) to Happy Planet Index (HPI) as our city’s main measure of success, have white Roof to reduce heat load and make homes cooler, adopt natural farming ( organic) for our agricultural production , make Cebu a biogas city:by converting Cebu’s piggeries to biodigesters eliminating waste/odor, have urban gardens to provide 50% of Cebu’s food needs at reduced cost through urban vegetable gardening, convert waste to profits by eliminating 90% of landfills (dumps) and through, compost and producing profits from fertilizer, adopt rain harvesting by adding rainwater cisterns to 50% of residential areas and 80% of commercial buildings, retrofit 50% of Cebu’s building using natural ventilation/lighting, double or triple Philippine production of geothermal power, increase Cebu’s tree cover by 10 times to cool the city and provide fruits, promote use of clean cars through cut in imported oil use by 50% and instead using natural gas, biofuels, and compressed air (electricity), utilize wind power:and increase wind power production in the Philippines by 10 times (and build one in Cebu!), and plant and maintain huge tree plantations for cooking fuel.
Have a different type of weekend and come and meet and join the MISSION, Prof. Glen Green, and the rest of the Imaginals at the Family Park in Talamban and experience the joy of realizing your calling and your own mission, for yourself, for our country, for Mother Earth, for God.
