Fortune-tellers pick Miss RP to win the Miss U contest

ALWAYS LEADING. Every time the Miss Universe pageant approaches, predictions as to who’s going to win crop up in the entertainment columns. The fortune-tellers always come out as one in saying that ours is the best bet in leading the race. It’s sad that the fortune-tellers always fall short of their predictions. In many past beauty pageants our candidates didn’t even make the cut. “Maypa di nalang magtag-an-tag-an kay mabuyagan pa nuon ang atong ‘nag-leading’ nga kandidata,” one observer was heard saying.

BETTING ON BEAUTIES. This year’s Miss Universe pageant will be held in Las Vegas. Internet reports say betting on the competing beauties has started to build up. “It’s good to know that Miss Philippines is always within the top 10,” observes Ronald Sleek, an American married to a Cebuana and a bettor in beauty contests.
