Good manners, right conduct needed

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Antolin “Iyo Antoy” de la Serna has suggested in his Banat News column that the subject “Good Manners & Right Conduct” be returned to our academic curriculum. One only has to observe the manners of our young people today to be convinced that Tolin has a point. I agree with him.

Newsfotog Loy Jurado is also for the return of “Good Manners & Right Conduct” in our schools. Loy says one seldom hears today young people, including grade schoolers, say “Thank you” after receiving something from do-gooders.

On many occasions, Loy says, he saw school children being handed our schoolbags and other school supplies. “Not a single occasion that I hear the kids say thank you to giver,” Loy says. And he blames not the children but the teachers.

Loy himself never forgets to say “thank you” for any good done for him. Sometimes even if I have not published his PR he would text me and say “Thanks.” By force of habit, I think.

I once had a lady media colleague (now in US) who told me a secret about her boyfriend. She said every time her BF kissed her even on the forehead, he would say “Thank you.” To which she said she would naturally say “You’re welcome.” Funny you say? Funny but she and her BF are now husband and wife in San Diego, California.

When South Korea beat Greece in the ongoing FIFA 2010 Would Cup in South Africa there was an outbreak of extreme euphoria in Seoul and many other parts of South Korea.

Newspaper reports said there was a sudden increase in beers sales, snack foods and other foods. But what got observers shaking their noggins was the unprecedented increase in the sales of condom on the night of the victory.

Maybe there was just a strong desire to add more pleasure to the celebration. There were no reports on that happened at home when North Korea lost to Brazil.

The news says 28 of the 30 buses of the JD Rent-a-Car failed the road worthiness test. They are not allowed to operate. Mrs. Cornelia Moore, a frequent bus rider, wants to know: “How about other buses owned by other transport operators?”
