Reader: Use English in sex education

KEEP IT CLEAN. A reader who identified herself as a nurse with experience in teaching reproductive health to mothers in barangays has this advice to teachers who will be discussing about sex education to students: Keep it simple; keep it clean; use the English language. She said that in her experience conducting seminars on reproductive health, there are many women who would snicker, laugh, make snide remarks or criticize her. She said, “Lisud kaayo kay daghan gyud nila, butangan og malisya. Mama na unta na sila, naa nay mga anak, apan daghan gihapon nga malisyosa’g huna-huna. Unsa pa kaha ning mga bata nga bugal-bugalon kaayo.”

USE ENGLISH. The nurse said that to keep sex education clean and clinical, it’s best to use the English language as she said using Cebuano terms doesn’t sound good. She said, “Bastos man gud paminawon kun Binisay-on ang mga termino.”
