Trying to make do

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

I’m still in the hospital trying to make do with what I’ve got left. And what I’ve got left wouln’t have been mine to make do with were it not for the kind hearts of my benefactors.

* * *

During this virtual crisis in my life only two kind souls came to me to assure me of l00 percent assistance. No one else. They know who they are. God knows who they are.

* * *

I am not yet ready to reveal their names as these two generous souls are not given to publicity for the good deed they have done for people in need.

During my hospital stint I received many text messages from friends and this paper’s readers (Thank you all sincerely). Most of them are what the cards say: “Get well soon. God bless you!” Some other messages are inspirational like: “Sir Jab, just carry your cross and follow Him.”

* * *

And here’s one text message from my friend Teddy who, at that time, was also having a stint in another hospital: “Bai, while you still have time, send a message to all the girls you’ve loved before.” Hehehe. Kinsa ko si Julio Iglesias?

* * *

Anyway to all the girls I’ve loved before, my message is: The spirit is still willing but the flesh has collapsed.

* * *

The humorous messages were my cup of tea and they made my day. Like this one from Ben Ypil of The Cebu Voice: “Timailhan sa guwang lalaki: 1. Layo ang tinan-awan duol ang ihianan; 2. Katulgon kon maglingkod, di makatulog kon maghigda; 3. Mahinumdoman ang dugay nang panahon, malimot sa bag-o pang hitabo; 4. Sa una gahi ang gahuwat, karon gahuwat nus-a mogahi.” Etcetera etcetera.

* * *

Someone asked me: “Is there is a partylist for newspapermen?” I said I haven’t heard of one. I said I thought there ought to be one. There are more marginalized people in the media community than in many partylists approved by Comelec. I’m willing to be corrected.

* * *

One partylist I know is made up of personalities who you can’t consider marginalized. Someone said and I’m inclined to believe that the bright guys just made use of the partylist to be able to sit in Congress. But this info is old hat, isn’t it?
