Waiting
There are many of us who are now waiting for several things to happen.
So many of our people are counting the days before Christmas, many waiting for their bonuses, the gifts they will receive then, the parties and reunions they will attend. Of course, there will be among those who will await the day of our Lord’s birth as a wonderful reminder of God’s love for all that He gave His only Son so that all can be reunited with Him.
There are those who are waiting to see how the Maguindanao drama unfolds through the days. After the brutal and condemnable massacre, martial law was declared by the GMA government.
There are those who are waiting to see how the Supreme Court will decide about the Martial Law declaration. There are also those who are waiting for the decision of Congress about this martial law declaration.
Cynics will, of course, say there is no need to wait as the obvious partisan decision in favor and in agreement with GMA’s proclamation can be expected of a partisan, GMA-controlled Supreme Court and Congress.
What will happen to the Ampatuans? Will they be punished for the heinous massacre in Maguindanao?
Again, there are those who are waiting for genuine justice to be meted out. However, this early, some legal experts area already saying that even if they will be found guilty and imprisoned, they can be given amnesty by the President.
Is their arrest therefore and the so-called sending of troops and helicopters to Maguindanao just for show? As the expression goes, nag-moro-moro lang diay ba ang gobiyerno? Is the government merely taking all of us for a ride?
Will those who keep the secret of the past electoral process and results be allowed to be arrested and prosecuted? Can the GMA government afford to have the so-called electoral secrets be revealed by the lords of the ballot in Maguindanao? Many are waiting to see how GMA will handle her former allies from Maguindanao.
There are also those who are waiting to find out the out the real and complete explanations for the massacre.
Reports are ripe about the massacre being premeditated, with consent ranging from Maguindanao to Malacañang. There are those who are saying that the massacre is part of the greedy quest for power, again from the local to the national level.
Will the full truth about this massacre and its link with the quest for power ever come out? Like any drama series, this is one worth watching out for.
There are also those who are waiting to see how the Church, how the Filipino people will react to the related events of the massacre, Martial Law, and confirmed corruption of this government. Will there be a strong and successful movement for GMA’s resignation or for civil disobedience or for snap elections?
For sure, this month, this year is unlike all others in the past. Several Ms hound the nation — the Maguindanao Massacre, Martial Law, the Megalomaniac officials and candidates, among others.
What will Christmas be like this year? And what will happen to our people and to our country between now and then? It is waiting time for all…
