Young foreigner scared of marriage leaves in haste

- The Ear -

SCARED OF MARRIAGE? A young (24-year-old) foreigner from an Asian country hurriedly left Cebu for home last week without even saying goodbye to his friends. Reason: The parents of the girl he had befriended have a liking for him and allegedly wanted him to marry their daughter, a sales clerk in a department store here. An Ear informer said the foreigner and the girl had been going out for dinner but “no romantic relationship.” The young foreigner had been tipped that the girls’s parents were finding ways to have him marry their daughter and got scared. “Gikuyawan intawon ang langyaw so midali-dalig layas,” the Ear informer said.

KNOWLEDGE. The Ear informer learned that the girl, the foreigner’s friend, did not know about her parents’ plans. She said she and the foreigner were only good friends. She told our informer: “Buanga nilang papa ug mama oy. Nadaut nuon ang friendship namo ni (name withheld).”
