Lifestyle check on mediamen?

Everytime The Freeman celebrates an important occasion I am asked to make a speech and I always refuse. I know that my silence is better than my speech.

The problem is nobody gives a silent man any applause, let alone a standing ovation. Only the talker gets an ovation. And the louder he talks, the louder the ovation.

Reminds me of a young speaker who, like me, felt nervous on stage. After receiving an ovation, he got rattled and said: “From the heart of my bottom, I thank you!”

That’s why I always say no when asked to make a speech. I don’t want to be like that nervous young speaker. I might end my speech with: “OK, luv u. Take care.” Hehe!

The office of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay sent me a copy of the Makati Mirror, the city’s official organ. It was addressed to me thus: “Mr. Juanito V. Jabat, Publisher, The Fair and Fearless Freeman....” Hehe!

A politician (in Luzon) who is said to be among the richest in his calling, wants a probe on the lifestyle of top-level media practitioners. Oh, here they go again. I don’t know what my colleagues think, but me, I welcome this nonsense.

My lifestyle? It’s a waste of time looking into it. It’s the most dreary lifestyle in the world of journalists. I stay home most of the time when I’m not at work in the office at the Philippine Star building.

Should this reported lifestyle check on media people come to pass, I hope the probers will not grill me with questions like: “Why don’t you have a car?” “Why can’t you fix your cracked up vinyl flooring?” “Why can’t you replace your already obsolete cellular phone with a modern one?” etc., etc.
