Video pirates: Accomplices of sexual perverts!

Globe Officials came to Cebu led by Ferdinand “Ferdz” Dela Cruz, head of Consumer Wireless Business and Manny Aligada, head of Customer Engagement group. This new program is called DUO, a Mobile line and Landline all rolled into one phone and uses only one SIM card.

When one talks about the fusion of a new technology like a cellular telephone with an old telephony technology called Landline, the word to use is “Convergence” Today people on the go look for the ultimate in convenience, like three-in-one coffee or a shampoo and conditioner in one. While today’s technology already allows the use of a landline using a separate telephone, which is much like a cellphone as offered by other Telecoms, Globe ups the ante by merging the two technologies using only one cellphone and one SIM card.

With your DUO number, you can call any landline from your cellphone or any Cebu landline can call you without any charges except for the P399 monthly bill you have to pay for this added service. That means your cellular bills will drop, especially if you are a heavy phone user. In fact, because there are no charges when you call a friend also with a DUO number, you can call and talk all you want with that friend without any added charges, this is why this plan is very enticing as it is an offer that is difficult to refuse or pass up. Allow me to congratulate the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Licensing Division under Atty. Vicente Gador for a superb job in fixing and professionalizing itself when I renewed my driver’s license last Friday. The process all but took less than an hour and viola! I got my new driver’s license. This was at the LTO Regional Offices in N. Bacalso Ave. What surprised me was that the medical check was already computerized, complete with digital fingerprinting to make sure that no fixer would put his thumb mark instead of the applicant.

This goes to show that the LTO is really trying to use technology to ensure that we won’t be seeing any fake registrations. We’ve been a staunch critic of the ugly things that happened with the LTO in the past, but we also give credit where credit is due, so kudos to the LTO! My only concern now is whether this new plastic license will last. The last one I had was tattered almost beyond recognition.

While the nation’s capital is abuzz with the sex video scandal of cosmetic surgeon Dr. Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili, the coffeehouses in Metro Cebu are on a “tsimis” binge trying to identify who are the two married lovers (they were once called adulterers) who because of a lover’s spat, the man posted their sex video in YouTube without the permission of the woman. As the report goes, the woman wanted to call it quits, so he used their sex video to “blackmail” her to continue with the relationship.

The woman went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to report her predicament, more so that he allegedly threatened to release more sex videos in other websites. So while the guessing game goes on, I’m sure that these married couple are having their private crisis. The easy way out is to break up but then, that’s always the risk when a man and a woman get themselves into a complicated situation and both of them do not have an “exit” strategy! The best solution is never to go into that affair in the first place as just like a marriage turned sour, it will end up in a messy problem like what this couple is now in. 

But then this is the trouble with new technology today, you can go to bed with another person whom you are not married to and one partner might just take a video or photograph of that illicit sexcapade without your knowledge. Then what happens when the affair turns sour? The whole world gets to view your sex video! So take a good advice, don’t record your illicit affair for any reason because you might just regret it, like what Katrina Halili and Dr. Hayden is doing, showing all remorse.

Incidentally, the Hayden Sex video scandal has become sensational simply because of something that government has miserably failed to stop. I’m talking about the rampant selling of pirated films and other videos that you can buy in any sidewalk and have become a visible accomplice of sexual perverts who sell their sex videos to the public. There seems to be no stopping these video pirates from selling pornographic videos even to minors or the underage. So when you want to sell a sex video, it gets sold instantly! So when will the government crack down on these bootleggers?
