- The Ear -

SEGREGATE. The re-implementation of the segregation of garbage is a good move by the city government. But readers were quick to criticize that this might be only another ningas cogon project. A reader from Guadalupe said, “Basin sa sinugdanan ra na. Dili ra gihapon na masunod og dugay.” A reader from Lahug said she remembered when segregation of garbage was first implemented. She said the people complied with the segregation scheme. They followed the schedules of when to throw out the biodegradables or malata and when to throw out the non-biodegradables or di-malata.

INTEGRATE. But, residents observed that the biodegradable garbage would get mixed with the non-biodegradables inside the garbage trucks. The collectors also later noticed that during the schedule for non-biodegradables, the residents would “hide” the biodegradables under the plastics and other non-biodegradables. The reader said, “Sagol gihapon ang malata ug di malata so useless ang segregation. Dapat istrikto gyud ang mga basurero.”
