Non-Catholics selling Catholic saint images in order to live

- The Ear -

POSTER VENDOR. A Muslim sidewalk vendor was seen selling posters of Catholic saints on Colon St. one Sunday last month. The saints on the posters include the Sacred Heart, the Blessed Virgin, Sto. Niño, Black Nazarene, etc. Asked why he, a Muslim, was selling Catholic saint-posters and virtually helping propagate the Catholic religion, the Muslim simply answered: “Pangwarta lang ... Masuko ba inyong mga santos mangwarta ta?”

BORN-AGAIN VENDOR. An Ear reader said he saw last Fiesta Señor a born-again woman (his neighbor) selling icons of Sr. Sto. Niño near the Cross of Magellan. The reason for her vending the Sto. Niño images was the same reason given by the Muslim poster vendor (above). “Kataw-anan kaayo ... Kontra sa mga born-again ang mga rebolto sa santos apan niya born-again namaligya’g mga rebolto aron makapalit makaon,” The Ear reader said.
