Letter To The Editor: Reproductive Health Bill
This House Bill is one of those which the Church has been trying to stop. The Church has been trying to hinder the approval of this House Bill for a long time now. But would it truly benefit us? Would it really solve our economic crisis? Just to give you a clearer perspective, I would like to share my opinion with regards to this bill.
We filipinos have been known to be Catholics and a conservative people. And approving this bill would somehow be a very big problem for us and it would also destroy our reputations as Catholics. If it so happens that this bill would be approved, it would mean that sex would be available anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. Having said that, that would also somehow affect our culture. Because we Filipinos consider sex as a sacred thing and is only or mostly done by married people. A sign of love and affection for other people. We would somehow lose our respect to other people and most especially ourselves.
Sex is considered to be a responsibility. And if this bill would be approved, we would lose our sense of responsibility which we Filipinos have been living up for a long time. It would also pollute the minds of our fellow Filipinos especially the youth.
For me, this bill still has negative sides. It's more like a double edge sword. There is a big possibility that this bill would serve as a hindrance for peace and unity which is what we have been fighting for.
I could consider those politicians who made this bill as naive people. They tell us that this bill would help us solve our problem. For me, I think that they are using this bill to cover their dirty little secret. Behind all of this, their main purpose is their own profit and business. They would use this bill for their own source of income.
And if somehow this bill would benefit us, For me, some of these contraceptives are just too expensive for the Filipinos especially the poor ones which was their main objective.
This bill must not be signed because it could cause chaos to our country. It could turn into a bugbear in which we Filipinos have been afraid of. - Carl Castillo / [email protected]
