The price of oil has been sliding down. Is it now time for us to say “Oil’s well that ends well?”

News: “The crocodile population has been decreasing in recent years.” Some crocs have been killed by hunters. And other others? Some of the others have been disguising themselves as public servants.

They continue to talk about taxes in Congress. US Sen. John Parker was right when he said: “Taxes are not like old soldiers — they don’t fade away.”

Email from Sol Palomo of Jersey City, N.J., USA: “I was in Las Vegas three days ago and I was glad to learn that the number of people betting on Manny Pacquiao against Oscar de la Hoya has been increasing. Sol Palomo, according to his email, is a native of Bohol but grew up in Cebu. He said he used to contribute “little pieces” to Cebu dailies, especially The FREEMAN and The Morning Times when he was still here. He remembers visiting TF’s editorial office “under the kulo tree on Manalili.”

Time was when important boxing cards were the monopoloy of the big cities — Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, etc. Well, not anymore. Big time boxing — some of them world title fights — are now being enjoyed by fight fans in the towns. Sammy Gello-ani, through his SSG Sports Promotions outfit, has brought important fight cards to places like Talisay (Cebu) and Naga (Cebu) and some towns in North Cebu. These boxing promotions aren’t so-so. For they feature boxers from other countries and the stakes for them are high — world titles and cash to boot.
