Children's Rosary Rally!

AT 3 A.M. - Fr. James Reuter, SJ -

The Children’s Rosary Rally will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Tiendesitas Activity Center on Ortigas Avenue, at the corner of C5, Pasig City.

The battle cry of this year, its tenth anniversary, is: “Save Creation Through Mary”. Ambassador Francisco A. Alba, president of the Children’s Rosary Movement, hopes that through the prayers of our children everyone will have a stronger commitment to nature conservation, and that parents will respect God’s order of human creation by living and promoting the values of Humanae Vitae.

Nationwide, children will be praying to Our Lord through his mother to preserve this beautiful world that he has given us, and for the Gospel of Life against the Culture of Death.

Rare books

At the National Office of Mass Media, we have a number of very thoughtful books, all based on the values of God, which are not easily available at the ordinary book stores.

* Light Cavalry, by Horacio de la Costa, S.J.

The Jesuits were suppressed from 1768 until 1859. This book tells the story of the Jesuits in the Philippines from their return in 1859 until World War II swept over us in December of 1941. It reads like a romantic novel, because it was written when Horacio de la Costa was 22 years old, not yet a priest, filled with the joyous idealism of youth. To him, at that time, this story was really a high romance. 626 pages. P300.

•The Jesuits in the Philippines, 1581 to 1768, by Horacio de la Costa, S.J.

This was his dissertation when Father de la Costa earned his Doctorate in History at Harvard University. It tells the inside story of the Philippines for those two dramatic centuries. Magnificent history. Filled with accurate historical footnotes, excellently indexed. Hard bound. 702 pages. P400.

•Civilians in World War II, One Brief Shining Moment, An Eyewitness History.

Personal stories of civilians during the three years and three months of the Japanese Occupation. Especially the tragic days of liberation, when more Filipinos were killed in Manila than the Japanese who were killed in Hiroshima by the atom bomb. 310 pages. P300.

•Legacy, Selected Works and Writings of James B. Reuter, S.J.

Compiled by the students, actors, singers and athletes of Father Reuter. A record of his work for 70 years in the Philippines, with memories of those who were close to him. Principal editor: Ruben V. Nuñez. 821 pages. Embossed P1,000. Regular P800.

•Yayee, by Arsenio C. Jesena, S.J.

Five volumes of touching stories about ordinary, common people of the Philippines. Written from personal experience and intimate daily contact.

•Landas, set of 10 paintings of Joey Velasco

Out of darkness into the light. P300.

•Technique of the One Act Play, by Robert I. Gannon, S.J.

Excellent book on drama. Father Gannon earned his Doctorate in English Literature at Oxford in England and served many years as president of Fordham University in New York. This little book is excellent for the young writer, who is just beginning. It is as clear as sunlight on the basic elements of drama. P200.

•Father Reuter and His Friends, coffee table book.

Put together by his students for his 80th birthday. Replete with pictures. Excellent research. Principal editor: Monina Allarey Mercado. P150.

•Mysteries of Salvation History - Promise and Fulfillment in the Holy

Rosary, by Edgardo C. de Vera.

Filled with amazing scholarship. Beautiful introduction to the Old Testament, and to the New, especially for those who are not familiar with the Scriptures. Very relevant for this our day, for those who pray the rosary. 122 pages P150.

•Mama Mary and Her Children, True Stories of Real People, by James B. Reuter, S.J.

Personal stories of those who have prayed to Our Lord through his mother, and who have received remarkable blessings. The Virgin is called “Mama Mary” only in the Philippines, because the Filipino and the Filipina feel that she has a special love, and a special care, for them. 150 pages. P325.

•At 3:00 A.M. Love and Life, by James B. Reuter, S.J.

Collection of the best columns, written originally for the Philippine STAR. The stories concentrate on real life, and on real love, and on the power of prayer. P150.
