GMA is not alone in ignoring resign clamor

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

“Pacquiao vs. Hoya: A dream come true” — Headline. One thing sure: This dream will end up a nightmare for either of the two.

* * *

But a friend says: “What nightmare are you talking about? Win or lose these boxers will be smiling their way to the bank.”

Despite the RP-style people power demo against him in Bangkok, the Thai prime minister is ignoring the call for him to resign. Ate Glo must be saying to herself: “I am not alone.”

Republican vice presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been quoted as saying: “In politics there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers ... And then there are those who use their careers to promote change.”

* * *

She was referring first to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican presidential best be John McCain. Mrs. Palin’s statement could also find space in Philippine politics. So expect some political commentators and observers to quote Palin’s statement as they size up candidates in the 2010 polls.

Email from Teddy H: “It seems that we are destined to be an impoverished nation. Look ... Some investors want to look for oil in our land/seas, there are those who protest. We need to modernize our transport system, there are elements against it. We try to boost our economy with reclamation projects, this is blocked. We build flyovers as part of economic progress, shouts of disfavor ensue. Magpabilin na ba lang ta nga ingon niining kahimtang sa karon? I’m dismayed.”

In relation to our emailer’s dismay, I’d like to quote a line or two from “Renbor Patrol,” Rene Borromeo’s hard-hitting column in Banat News: “Kon magsige na lang kita pagsupak, unsaon man nato sa paglambo?”

* * *

Renbor (as Rene Borromeo is known to his media colleagues) cited the case of the Cebu Country Club. There were shouts of disapproval when then Gov. Lito Osmeña decided to sell this province-owned land to the Ayala group. Now that erstwhile golf course, availed of only by the rich who pay a measley tax to the government, is the Cebu Business Park where the Ayala Business Center and shopping mall is.”

BOBIT SAYS: “I pray that when God hands down His morning blessings, yours will weigh a ton ... Have a beautiful morning. God bless you.”
