A different breed of vigilantes

STREET THUGS. The Ear heard that at a squatters’ area in Cebu City a group of street thugs beat up a snatcher who, after grabbing a watch from a couple, ran to their neighborhood to elude authorities.

When the “estambays” saw the snatcher, they collared him and beat him senseless.

One estambay yelled to the snatcher: “Allergic kaayo mi anang mga kriminal nga ari motago sa among lugar. I-uli na imong gi-snatch.”

VIGILANTES. The police who ran after the snatcher had to stop the beating and physically prop up the nearly unconcious snatcher.

The criminal was too scared to get up so the police had to assure him that nobody will touch him.

The snatcher willingly surrendered to the authorities. A witness later told The Ear, “Nakahatag sab og kaayo ning mga bugoy sa amo kay mahadlok ang mga kriminal mo anhi diri.”
