BLAST FISHING. Despite the reported effort of the government to stop dynamite fishing this outlawed method of fishing continues unabated in many areas around Cebu. This according to reports reaching The Ear. The latest report came from a resident of Mactan who claimed that dynamite fishing in the waters off Mactan is known to people living along the coastal areas of the island. “Daghan man unta nahibaw aning pangdinamita’g isda dinhi, nganong wa man gyuy nadakpan sa kapolisan?” one Mactan resident asked. “Siyaro wa masayud ang kapolisan niini ug ang Coast Guard.”
ADVERSE EFFECT. The owner of a moviehouse on Colon St. said the “Kasadya sa Colon” celebration has made the historic street alive at night. The night market has attracted a lot of people but he said that since the start of “Kasadya” the number of people entering his movie theater has been reduced. “Gamay na lang ang manud sa sinehan kay nalingaw sa night market,” he said.
