Return of ROTC okay but former cadet warns against abusive cadet officers

- The Ear -

ROTC OK, BUT...  A businessman called up to welcome Congressman Eddie Gullas move to revive the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in college. “I like the idea” he said. “But there must be some sort of safety net to protect the student-cadets from abusive and corrupt cadet officers.” He said when he took up ROTC in one of the universities in Metro Manila, he observed “abuses and corruption” among some cadet officers. “I hope this ROTC being proposed by the congressman will be a new and highly professionalized one,” the caller said.

STRICT SCREENING. More on the move to revive the ROTC, another reader, an ROTC dropout, said that if it couldn’t be helped that the bill proposing the return of the training corps is pushed through there must be a strict screening of the cadet officers. “Ni-drop out ko sa ROTC tungod kay di ko matun ang pagka-abusado sa among mga opisyal,” he said. “Apan nakagraduwar gihapon ko kay duna koy gibayran.”
