Reader hits senatorial "inquisition"

One was killed and two were injured when a police car rammed a house in Brgy. Tabunan. Our police patrol cars have been misbehaving lately. Like some of our cops.
Dr. Suga Sotto Yuvienco, a good friend, is campaigning hard for former Sen. Tito Sotto who is staging a comeback. Tito is Suga''s nephew. Suga could be the lamp on Tito''s path to an impressive victory in Cebu.
A newspaper reader, in a letter to the editor, wrote that voters must be careful in choosing their senatorial candidates. He said: "Vote for those who know how to make laws not those whose expertise is to investigate people and insult them during a senatorial inquisition which they call senate hearing. "
Reminds me of what I read somewhere before: "Congress has been described as a national inquisitorial body, created for the purpose of acquiring information and then doing nothing about it. "
Suppose tv networks voluntarily ban themselves from covering live so-called hearings in Congress. Maybe this would stop the lawmakers from grandstanding or showing off during the hearing.
Pal Romasanta of New York sent in this e-mail: "This is in connection with the controversial deco lampposts in Cebu. I saw these lampposts when I was there not long ago. The papers say they were overpriced. I say it seems it''s true. . . why don''t they uproot some of the lampposts and erect them around Plaza Independencia which I found too dark for the promenaders'' comfort at night. "
A native of Cebu, Romasanta said in a subsequent e-mail; "We only have one main park (Plaza Independencia) but it can''t be beautified and properly maintained. . . Singapore has some 20 public parks but all of them are well taken care of. You should see the beautiful flowers and greens in these Singapore parks. . . If our government can''t do what Singapore has done, maybe some civic clubs can. "
A candidate for governor (not in Cebu) has been quoted as saying: "Politics has become very expensive," Yes. Indeed. Many politicians spend a lot of money just to get clobbered at the polls.
The question in Garry Lao and Paul Rosaroso''s Streetsmart" feature yesterday was: "what is the meaning of Comelec?" a 16-year-old, 2nd year high school student answered: "Wa ko kahibaw wa man na sa among leksyon. " Another interviewee said "wa gyud ko kahibalo ana. "
Would you believe that a 2nd year high school student doesn''t know what Comelec means?
