Flash Elorde 'still the greatest' Pinoy boxer, says a lawyer

Actor Cesar Montano says he's not calling it quits. He's in the thick of the senatorial race. So let's give unto Cesar what is Cesar's - a Senate seat.
A wise guy says you can make some movie stars become senators or congressmen but you can't make them think.
The third party in the senatorial contest has dissipated. Like I said, quoting my favorite book author, a third party is as unpopular in politics as it is in love.
A newspaper columnist says there are many clowns in Congress. Will Rogers says these clown make a joke and it becomes a law.
Attorney Romulo Makalintal, a well known election lawyer, recently said on radio the Cebuano Gabriel "Flash" Elorde is still the greatest Filipino boxer. Elorde ruled his division for seven years yet he was humble about it. The "greatest" and the "humblest" Pinoy boxer ever, according to Makalintal.
"Agree ko ni Attorney," said Undo, a friend of mine whose love for boxing is exceeded only, according to him, by his love for a young widow in his neighborhood. "Pagka wa gyuy hambug atong Flash Elorde, wa gyud toy planong mo-enter og politika ug modagan paka-congressman bisan pa nga adtong panahuna mas popular pa siya ni bisan kinsang politiko sa iyang lungsod sa Bogo."
That was some bomba detonated by Lahug Brgy. Captain Mary Ann delos Santos against Mayor Tommy O after the latter allegedly dragged her ailing father's name into politics. It was the first time I heard or read about a woman castigate Tomas in a manner no male politician has ever done. "Yehey!" some male politicians who themselves don't have the gall to verbally lash out at Tom O even if they want to must be cheering.
Why, what did Mary Ann say? "Tell Tomas," she said, "that I am forewarning him not to touch my ailing father and family because I will do everything to protect them and I am not afraid of him. If he can do away with his insults and intimidation to others, sorry, but I will not submit to him. Di intawon ko saup niya ug dili niya hacienda ang siyudad sa Sugbo." Some observers are calling Mary Ann a woman with balls.
Rudy Llenares of Toronto, Canada, asked in a recent e-mail: "Will corruption in our government ever be stopped? Husto na tawon ang pangurakot uy. Lata na kaayo ang ngan sa Filipino sa abroad..." Mr. Llenares was commenting on recent reports that the Philippines has been tagged "Most Corrupt Economy in Asia" by the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC) based in Hong Kong.
