Splitsville in Smallville Sugbu

BORED AGAIN - BORED AGAIN By Maddie Llacer -
Sugbu Act 1: Scene 2: Take 3

SuperDad hurls crystal goblet at WonderMom in a torrid argument over a piece of cake. (smashing plates follow) Was it Catwoman? Did he give enough dough for the bread to be broken? Issues, issues.

As a child, I remember how my mum used to pack her suitcases after a heated argument with dad. She told me to be good and take care of sis because she's leaving and never coming back. I would just stand by the doorway and watch those suitcases until night fell. She never left.

Damn. I thought she was a coward because she didn't have the confidence to make it on her own and had nowhere to go. I wanted her to leave and follow her heart and take me along. She was always concerned of what people would say behind her back. After the broken chinaware and commemorative Coke-Cola glasses, I wanted to experience a broken family.

Why would people stay together just because of the kids? Constant bickering or acting as if nothing's wrong can put a strain in the children's lives and when they grow up, they emulate the traits of their parents. The reason why couples seem to come to an irreconcilable difference is that one cannot accept that the other has changed and still hold on to what was once there. Others see marriage as a source of security, trying to preserve the romantic and beautiful side of the relationship and not taking into consideration that there is also the dark side of midnight.

Couples who split up are frowned upon as if the guy is a loser and the girl is damaged goods. Some split-ups are amicably settled while others end up bloody as if to give life to the words "'til death do us part". Taking a breather while in a tumultuous relationship really helps one see the relationship in another perspective. It is like always working overtime and not having vacations. One gets smothered with the constant conundrum of repeated issues that do not seem solve by themselves.

Relationships have different characteristics based on the components involved. They range from fixed assets providing stability and security as most tend to be predictably boring; to malleable and fluid, adapting to the seasons as they change.

There is no secret to a lasting marriage as long as both parties have fun and enjoy each other's company. Once in a while, take a break or split up in order to recharge your personal identities. Reassess your goals and direction. Is your personal growth proportionate to the growth of the relationship? There are questions one can ask according to the level of growth they are comfortable in dealing with.

Meanwhile at the Justice League, Superman confronts Batman and calls him "Yawa!", while Governor Wonder Woman uses her magic lasso of truth to round up more citizens to sign the petition against Sugbuak. The Philippine political circus has once again turned into a comic strip.

Is the lady governor treating Sugbuak like her family breakup? I gather it is always a motherly instinct to preserve what is good and beautiful, while men want war and destruction. If only having an annulment in this country can be as easy as having petitions signed by friends and family, people wouldn't resort to name-calling and childish accusations.

Why don't we have a trial separation? Granted that Sugbuak pushes through, the proposed break up sits in a timeframe of seven years and after that, if there is any progress or growth at all, Cebu will be united again. Sugbu, act now!

It seems everyone wants a piece of Smallville Cebu. Move over dried mangoes, the next big thing to hit the shelves are preserved dried Cebuanos, pakapin ang utok bolinaw.
