The ideal age for getting married
March 20, 2006 | 12:00am
The question-and-answer portion of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty contest is often made a source of fun by some critics. The following examples (courtesy of sportswriter Gabby Malagar) are the reasons why.
"Host: What is your edge over the other contestants?

Contestant: That's a very good question. Keep it up.
Host: What is you favorite motto?
Contest: If others can't why, why can't I?
Host: How do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Contestant: I'll be 28.

Enough with Gabby Malagar's contribution. Let's shift to local government unit squabbles. It says here that VM Mike Rama has said sorry to Guvnor Gwen Garcia for the scathing statements he made in the City Council against the Province. Guvnor is unconvinced. Remember what King Charles I once said about apologies? He said: "Never make an apology before you be accused."
I was invited to a watering hole party recently. The invitation came from a friend who is known for his remarkable drinking capacity. "We drinkers are happy when we're drunk," he said. He looked daggers at me when I answered "problem is, sometimes the drunkard's joy is the sober man's woe."
A 79-year-old Cebuano who has been away for most of his lifetime came home last week for what he called a "sentimental journey before the candlelight is off." He went to his place of birth but could not locate it. "Diha to dapit sa may perokaril," he said with a Yankee twang He was referring to the old Philippine Railway stations where E-mall now stands.
He was amazed at the development of Cebu. When he left his home near the "perokaril" there was still no Leon Kilat St. and South Expressway. He flew back to the US (So. Carolina) last Thursday after less than a month's stay in Cebu. "Mingaw," he said. "Wa na koy paryente dinhi."
