Letter to the Editor – Confiscation of wild animals

-
It is with pride and relief to read your news article on October 14, 2005 regarding the confiscation of wild animals from illegal traders by officials of the City and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in cooperation with local government units.

I am happy to know that there are government agencies on the lookout for people engaging in this illegal business.

Aside from continuing the effort in the conservation of these endangered species, more importantly the officials are giving the animals back their freedom and letting live their natural lives.

I hope that CENRO, DENR and local officials shall also broaden their animal protection activities against inhumane treatment of domestic animals in violation of the Animal Welfare Act.

If I may report, there is a dog chained in a very short leash without relief in the corner leading to Tipolo Elementary School from Hi-way Seno. If officials can intervene and help in giving this poor little dog (no matter how significant it is) a more decent life, it will surely show our people the humane and compassionate side of our government officials.

Likewise, there are still people selling caged wildlife in the vicinity of Archbishop Reyes. It was on a Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005.

Once again, I commend the officials concerned in this latest bust of wildlife animals for a job well done. Keep up the good work.
