EXCESSIVE FARE. A reader who wanted to be identified only as "Concerned Cebuano" called up to complain about the excessive fare charged by taxi drivers hanging out in the vicinities of hotels and motels in the city. He said he and his girlfriend took a taxi from a motel at the North Reclamation Area to Colon St. last Sunday afternoon. The driver charged him P150. When he argued that it was too much and insisted on the metered rate, the driver told him: "Mao man nang rate namong mga taxi driver dinhi." Because he didn't want to create a scandalous situation, the reader said he agreed to the fare. "Mauwaw man gud ta makiglalis kay gikan gud ta sa ... hibaw na ka," the caller said.
SENIOR CITIZEN'S GRIPE. An 81-year-old resident of Naga town who commutes daily to Cebu City where he still works for a radio station, told The Ear that everytime he rides in a PUJ he almost always gets into an argument with the driver and / or conductor. "Mo-insist man gud ko sa senior citizen's fare discount. Bisan gamay ra na pero di ko gustong tikasan" he said. His insistence has made some drivers obey the law. Those who still refuse to give him the discount continue to get tongue lashing from him. "Kun di sila modawat sa discounted fare ko manaug ra ko di mobayad. Kun mokiha sila, hala kiha lang. Tan-awon ta kinsay mangamote sa korte," the old man, rather the senior citizen, said.
