Some doctors take up nursing, others plumbing

OBJECTIVE: USA. Filipino professionals who want to work in the US but whose professions have no takers in that country have shifted to other fields of endeavor which could give them a better chance of landing jobs - good paying jobs - in America. We know of doctors of medicine taking up nursing courses. But have you heard of doctors taking up vocational courses in plumbing and carpentry? The Ear has heard of some. "Ang Pinoy doktor gud lisud makatrabaho sa Amerika. Pero ang plumber sayon ra makatrabaho ug dako pang suweldo," said one doctor-plumber who is now scheduled to leave for the US not as medical doctor but as plumber or tubero.
BETTER TREATMENT FOR CRIMINALS. A man whose wife is confined in the city hospital was heard complaining: "Maypang kriminal nga daghang gitulis dinhi sa siyudad nga naa karon sa ospital kay napusilan gihatagan sa tanang tambal nga iyang gikinahanglan. Apan ubang mga pasyente nga way ikapalit og tambal way tabang nga nadawat." He called this situation ironic and something to be lamented.
