Easter today over a devastated world

GOD'S WORD TODAY - GOD'S WORD TODAY By Jesus V. Fernandez, S.J. -
What seemed to be such a meaningless death after the bitter passion of Jesus turns out to be the only blessing which gives meaning to our life. And that meaning cannot be had unless we believe in faith Christ is risen; unless we recall the empty tomb; unless we live the victory of the Resurrection.

In the present chaos, who would say Jesus Christ still walks our earth very alive? Who would believe Him as the risen One after a Good Friday and Holy Saturday; but that the contemplation of His bleeding face, cannot forget the image of Him crucified. And now, who can believe He is around, close to us and blessing us with the glorious light of Easter morning and giving us life more abundantly?

Who can believe there is a Resurrection? The wounds of a devastated world are still Christ’s passion. Campaigns divide the world into spheres of influence and continents are eyed to be dominated. Warring factions set out to profit by political and economic opportunities. Nations aim to exploit all possibilities of power, of material riches, of sexual delight. We know there is no peace while death stalks the lands.

Let us look to the Resurrection of Christ. Two thousand years or so, the Church relives the event as if it just happened today. We let the risen One strengthen our faith so that we may see the very life of God concealed in the painful bleeding of humanity. And we pray this very life may ever remain in us. The risen Christ – may He ever be our Easter, the Easter He wants us to share with everyone today especially those who suffer the devastating effects of conflict and violence.

Easter today is to fight our battles for humanity, to put an end to poverty, injustice, loneliness, bitterness and remorse. Easter today is to bring man true liberty, the liberty of the sons of God. Easter today is to bring to an end the wretchedness of the human condition and human corruption in order to give life to men who will be artisans of a new history. Easter today is to help in bringing on a new creation, so that the earth and all nature may serve the well-being of every man.Easter today is a victory won through combined efforts to destroy the false positions and false images which man gives himself. Easter today is man confronting his dehumanizing inclinations, in the light of a living Word, a dynamic Word, the Word of the Gospel, the Word of Jesus Christ.

To all our dear readers of God’s Word Today, a most blessed Easter.

Easter Sunday, John 20:1-9.
