Infographic: Senators bare their 2015 wealth
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Tuesday released the 2015 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) of the 24 senators.
Sen. Cynthia Villar, the lone billionaire in the Senate, registered the highest jump in her net worth from P1.983 billion in 2014 to P3.5 billion last year.
Aside from Villar, 14 other senators posted an increase in their net worth from 2014 to 2015 - Sens. Bongbong Marcos, Jinggoy Estrada, Juan Ponce Enrile, Sonny Angara, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Franklin Drilon, JV Ejercito, Tito Sotto, Lito Lapid, Loren Legarda, Bam Aquino and Alan Peter Cayetano.
Meanwhile, Sen. Chiz Escudero replaced Sen. Antonio Trillanes as the poorest senator with a net worth of P5.8 million in 2015.
Under Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, government officials and employees are required to file their SALNs annually. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
