BOC holds export summit

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs recently held its first-ever Export Summit to help exporters better understand customs procedures and navigate processes when transacting with the BOC.
In a statement, the BOC said that from Oct. 26 to 27, businesses, industry groups and state agencies attended the summit that focused on practical issues that affect exporters, from customs procedures and trade agreements to regulatory requirements and government support programs.
The summit was held under the guidance of BOC-Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group deputy commissioner Agaton Teodoro Uvero.
The event was organized in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture.
“We have quality Filipino products. What we need are more opportunities for these products to reach a wider market. Our job in the BOC is to make the process more simple so our exporters can focus on expanding their business,” Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said.
The BOC said that while demand for local goods continues to grow, many exporters still face challenges in understanding requirements, keeping up with regulations and maximizing opportunities under existing trade agreements.
Port Operations Service director Melon Carlo Santiago said state agencies must remain attentive to exporters’ concerns and ensure that policies and services keep pace with their needs.
The event gave exporters an opportunity to raise issues with government representatives and exchange views with fellow industry players.
