Inventory of seized, recovered vehicles ordered
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office has ordered an inventory of all vehicles seized or recovered by the NCRPO amid reports that some of these are being used by lawmen for personal purposes.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano directed all district directors, chiefs of police and station commanders to verify the status, location and disposition of vehicles under their custody, following an order from Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
Abrahano also instructed police units to properly document and safeguard the vehicles and immediately report any unauthorized use.
He warned police personnel against taking advantage of their positions to use seized or recovered vehicles for personal purposes, saying such acts constitute breaches of police discipline and public trust.
“Vehicles recovered or impounded during operations are not personal property or privileges of any police officer. Anyone found using these vehicles without proper authority will be held accountable and face administrative and criminal charges, as warranted,” Abrahano said.
He said no police rank or position would exempt personnel from disciplinary action.
Abrahano reminded all police officers that vehicles placed under police custody must be treated as entrusted property and handled in accordance with existing rules.
